On Monday 2nd May 2016, a group of WZIS students and teachers travelled to Pingdu to volunteer in iHE Kindergarten, which was founded by a couple, who previously worked in Zhongshi. They first started home-based kindergarten and then expanded it to the current building last year. Majority of the kids are Chinese, but they also have few Koreans.
Upon arrival, our students started to work on wall painting until late night and created a shadow puppet show which they would display for the kindergarten students the following day.
On the second day, they had a great time with the kids while they performed the puppet show both in Chinese and English. The teachers also joined the wall painting and taught English to some primary students.
During our time there I was able to watch how our students expressed their many talents and linguistic skills for the duration of voluntary work in Pingdu. My hope is that this trip has helped students realised of what it truly means to be a servant leader.
I was impressed with the number of students, that sacrificed their Spring vacation to travel all the way to Pingdu and serve the local Chinese kids.
