Immersion Learning

For students learning English ZKIS provides a solid platform for language acquisition. We are an immersion school that seeks to provide a natural language learning environment for our students. Our teachers are all from native speaking countries or highly proficient in both oral and written English. Lessons are all taught in English and students are encouraged to speak in English in all the activities with which they engage. Although we acknowledge that our students spend too much time speaking in their native tongues outside of lessons, we are constantly trying new initiatives to incentivise the use of English inside and outside of school. Events such as Model UN competitions and Newspaper in a Day encourage students to not only master their English abilities, but to relish the opportunity to communicate in a foreign tongue.

International

Our teachers are from a variety of International backgrounds and students can see how people from different cultures can come together, communicate and learn from each other. Students have the opportunity to find out about countries they may never have heard of, expanding their horizons and their knowledge of others. Through a variety of field trips we allow students to explore China, Indonesia and the UK, and in the future we have plans to send students to the Philippines and India. Many of our teachers also enjoy travelling and through their stories they open children’s minds to the many opportunities our world offers.

Growth and Potential

ZKIS is a growing school committed to improving the quality of its educational programme. Parents can be confident that they will see an ever increasing range of opportunities for their children offered by our dedicated team of teachers and staff. The school facilities improve every semester and starting in August 2014 the school will offer boarding facilities in our onsite dormitory and a brand new natural sports pitch. We are working hard towards WASC accreditation which we expect to receive in Spring 2015 although many of the requirements for this accreditation are already in place.

A Record of Success

For the older students we have an excellent record in both exam results and preparing students for university. Our IGCSE and AS remain consistently high with many of our students exceeding International averages. We now have students studying in Universities across the World including Yonsei (South Korea), the University of Bath (UK) and Les Roches International School of Hotel Management (Switzerland). In 2013,  3 of our Grade 12 graduates were accepted into Yonsei University. More importantly, we want all our students to graduate from our school with a clear idea of their gifts and talents. We want them to use this awareness to make suitable choices about where to study and what employment to seek in the future.

Outside of academics we are quickly gaining a reputation in other extra curricular pursuits. Our soccer teams are frequently seen as the ‘team to beat’ and our table tennis team recently won every event in a regional competition. With the help of our supportive teachers students are receiving more and more opportunities to excel. In all these activities our students are encouraged to maintain the highest standard of conduct and their excellent behaviour ensures that we are continually invited to join new events.

Community

Most importantly we are a school that puts community first. Teachers and students enjoy close relationships with each other and new students are made to feel welcome quickly. We highly value the input and ideas of our parents and students, and we provide frequent opportunities for feedback allowing everyone involved in our school the opportunity to be part of its future.
