Darryl De Kock: High School English Teacher
This is my first year at Zhongshi International School. I’ve had the opportunity to teach in many different countries, meeting people from all walks of life. Teaching is my greatest passion and I’m happiest when I’m able to capture my students’ attention and draw them into the world of literature, poetry…..and grammar to of course. My hobbies are reading, listening to music and traveling around the world with my gorgeous wife. I studied at the Universities of South Africa and Stellenbosch where I received my Bachelors and Teachers Certificate in Education. I also studied at Queens University in Canada where I received my Masters.
Rochelle De Kock: ELL Teacher
Growing up in South Africa, then immigrating to Canada with my family, gave me a great desire and passion to work with people from different cultures. My husband was a seasoned teacher who felt the need for a challenge, so after prayerfully considering the matter, we decided that going abroad to teach and live amongst people of another country would be an awesome experience and adventure. Our first assignment was in Shenyang, China. I was offered a job at the International School, teaching Middle and High school ESL, and also teaching English in the Chinese Kindergarten department. Since I was TEFOL certified, I accepted the offer. I have not looked back. Since then I’ve taught ESL in Bangkok and Mexico. This is my first year at Zhongshi International School and I am excited to be assisting with the ELL program for the coming year.
Jeremy Fast: Social Studies Teacher
Mr. Fast comes to Zhonshi from the United States. Until moving to China, he lived nearly his whole life in the US State of Minnesota. Mr. Fast felt a calling to become a teacher after a transformative experience co-teaching humanities at his local private high school. His three years of informal training in the classroom focused him on a learning approach based on personal connections, intentional questioning, authentic assessment, and student understanding. In his undergraduate work Mr. Fast focused on developing a pedagogy and philosophy of curriculum for history, the social sciences, and the humanities. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Social Studies Education. Mr fast enjoys learning and he sincerely thinks learning is its own reward. He likes to learn about almost anything with almost anybody, and when at all possible he wants to encourage students to join meaningful conversations about life, truth, and goodness. Mr. Fast loves China and loves learning about one of the world’s oldest civilizations. Mr. Fast would love at some point to continue his education in humanities and philosophy, but at the moment he can think of nothing he would rather do then improve in his vocation as a teacher and to continue to try to serve students in their development into adult learners.

Minie Taylor: MUN Teacher/High School Teacher
I’m from the quaint, charming city of New Orleans, Louisiana where cultural diversity flourishes in the most unique ways. From remnants of French history that leaves a certain je ne sais quoi, to the spunk of the Irish Canal, to liveliness of Congo Square and the solemn reverence at the oldest Greek Orthodox church in America, New Orleans is and has always been influenced and surrounded by culture. It should come as no surprise that the travel bug bit this girl, born and bred on the bayous of Louisiana. When cultural diversity is all around you, you tend to want more of it. Of course, this is not the only reason I came to China or Zhongshi. My passion for inspiring the same feeling in others, especially young people, is what brought me halfway across the world. If I can do that while informing them of global problems and teaching them to create global solutions from a Christian worldview, than my job is done. The traveling bit is an added bonus. Like, a big added bonus but an added bonus nonetheless.
